How to Make Youtube Small Again
Youtube screen size is larger, how do I change it back to what it was before?
The video screen size has got bigger recently , I tried different browsers and its the same. Is this the same for everyone?
There should be buttons on the bottom of the screen which allows me to adjust the screen sizes, but it only has 'theatre mode' and 'full screen'. Whats going on?

Yeah, same here. It doesn't look too bad on my screen because it's 1080p.

I don't think that's what the first poster is talking about. I think they mean the size of the video frame because they're talking about the buttons right under the video frame. What you've put down zooms in or out of a web page.

Yeah, its the video frame which I'm referring to. The whole page is zoomed in correctly.

I noticed this too, at first I thought I had buggered something up but now realise its youtube and not me.

I noticed this.
i can't see why anyone would want to change it back.

because some videos don't have higher resolution, so it would look better instead on a smaller screen

Is it still happening? Only IE does that here, Firefox still gives me the two sizes (default, cinema) as well as full screen.

I agree. I've noticed quite a few videos having an upscaled look when being played. I really think they should change it back.

Well I don't know what's up then. Chrome, Firefox and IE all show me two boxes. One is for full screen and the other toggles between default mode and the larger cinema mode.

Yes, I have two boxes as well. There was three boxes before though. One for full screen, one for watching videos with the 720p setting and one for watching videos with the 360/480 setting.
Edit: If the default size looks an okay size on my 1080p screen, it will likely look quite big on my laptop's 1366x768 screen.

that's not what the buttons were
there was the resolution button (which was not about frame size), the full screen button, and the small/large frame size button.
it's the latter which is now gone, and for the better i say.

There was the watch later button, the quality setting, the small box, the middle size box and the full screen box. The small box has been removed. I do know that the quality setting didn't change the size of the video frame. I said the medium sized box was for the 720p setting because lines looked smooth instead of jagged when clicking the medium sized box.

you said
there wasn't a button for watching videos with 720p and a separate button watching with 360/480.
all the different resolutions where in one button and that button only affected the resolution - that button is still there.
the only button that has gone is the one that changed the frame size from small to large. the default is now large.
the other button changes the large frame from standard to cinema mode (ie black bars left and right).

Just make your browser window smaller and it will shrink back to how it was before.

yes if i shrink my browser window to <=1276 is goes back to small.

That's a bit of a faff for 'fixing it'. Quite a few videos on YouTube look upscaled because of this new change.

why is that a problem?

Well, er....because the frame size is too big for the video resolution.

i assume you must watch a lot of videos that are less than 480p then.
